Verlander, Avila named to Sporting News AL All-Star Team
Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander and catcher Alex Avila were both named to the AL All-Star team put together by The Sporting News.
Verlander, who went 24-5 with a 2.40 ERA this season, was the only unanimous pick on the AL roster. Avila was a pleasant surprise for the Tigers offense this season, batting .290, and hitting 19 home runs and 82 RBI’s.
Former Tigers outfielder and current New York Yankee center fielder Curtis Granderson was also named to the AL All-Star squad.
