UPDATE: Police release names in logging truck accident

Police have released the names of the two people who were taken to the hospital after a vehicle collided with a logging truck in Marquette Township Thursday afternoon.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on Wright Street north of Forrestville Road around 3:30 p.m.

18-year-old Kendra Kemp of Williamston was driving northbound when she lost control of her KIA Sorento and crashed into a logging tuck owned by Holli Logging of Ishpeming, which was driving southbound.

Police say the driver of the logging truck, 67-year-old David Kari of Ishpeming, noticed the KIA sliding sideways into his lane of travel.  In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, he veered right and jackknifed the truck.

The driver side of Kemp’s vehicle crashed into the driver side of the logging truck.

Kemp was extricated from her vehicle.  Kemp and her 19-year-old passenger, Linnea Frankie of Houghton, were treated and released for minor injuries from Marquette General Health System.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Michigan State Police, the Marquette Township Fire and Rescue Department, and Marquette General EMS.

The crash is still under investigation, but police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash, and all occupants were wearing seatbelts.
