VA Offers New Dental Insurance Program

IRON MOUNTAIN – The Department of Veterans Affairs is now offering dental insurance at reduced premiums for Veterans enrolled in VA health care as well as beneficiaries of VA’s Civilian Health and Medical Program (CHAMPVA).

The VA has contracted with private insurers Delta Dental and MetLife to administer the nationwide VA Dental Insurance Program (VADIP).  Both insurance companies offer standard, enhanced and comprehensive plans.

Veterans and CHAMPVA beneficiaries may complete the application for their choice of insurance company online, over the phone or by mail.  Coverage begins January 1, 2014.

The VA already provides comprehensive dental care to Veterans who meet certain stringent eligibility standards; however, this benefit is not available to many Veterans. VA would like all Veterans and beneficiaries to have access to good oral health, which impacts a person’s overall health throughout his or her life.  VADIP helps do this for those Veterans not eligible for VA dental care.

More information on VADIP and a direct link to each insurance company’s VADIP webpage is available at www.va.gov/healthbenefits/VADIP.
