USOEC Speedskater dominates American Cup Finals

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Speedskater Kimberly Derrick (Grand Rapids, Mich.) of the U.S. Olympic Education Center placed first in all four races in the Ladies division at the 2012 US Speedskating American Cup Finals and Short Track Age Group National Championships March 16-18 in Green Bay, Wis. Teammate Chelsea Creveling (Frenchtown, N.J.) won first overall in the intermediate ladies division.

A Northern Michigan University junior, Derrick won the 500 meter A Final with a time of 48.758 seconds. Derrick continued skating strong, winning the 1500m, 1000m and 1500m superfinal race.

“I’m very pleased with my performance this weekend and I look forward to a new season in 2012-13,” said Derrick.

Creveling, an NMU junior, placed first in the 1500m, 500m and 1000m races with a third-place finish in the 3000m superfinal.

Junior Chris Creveling (Kintersville, Pa.) and sophomore Sarah Burg (Alpena, Mich.) placed fifth in the men’s and ladies division, respectively. Senior Barry Winslow (Midland, Mich.) placed seventh, freshman Brett Perry placed eighth, sophomore Alaina Fiorenza placed ninth and freshman Lauren Ziegelmayer placed 12th.
