USOEC Boxer Will Go to U.S. Women\’s Olympic Trials

Women\’s boxing will make its Olympic debut at next summer\’s games in London.
The U.S. Olympic Trials will take place sometime early next year.
And a U.S. Olympic Education Center boxer will be there.
It\’ll be NMU freshman Mikaela Mayer.
The 2011 Golden Gloves National Women\’s Championships took place last week in Florida and wrapped up on Saturday.
Mayer won the championship in her weight division, advancing her to the Olympic Trials.
Mayer will be the first USOEC female boxer to compete at the trials.
In her first bout of the tournament, she won a 3–2 decision over 4–time national champion Caroline Barry.
And in the final round, Mayer won a 5–0 decision over a fighter who beat her in last year\’s Golden Gloves Nationals.
