GRAND ISLAND — A kayaker was rescued by a U.S. Coast Guard air crew from Lake Superior on Friday.

The Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie Post received a report from a kayaker around 1:00 p.m. that he and three other kayakers had become separated after they had capsized near Grand Island.
A rescue boat was launched from the Coast Guard Station in Marquette as was a rescue helicopter from Air Station Traverse City. A National Park Service crew from Munising also responded and arrived on scene with one of the kayakers.

They were unable to rescue him due to shallow water. When the air crew arrived, they were able to pull the kayaker from the water. All of the other missing people made it to shore safely.
