US Coast Guard rescues three in Lake Superior

MARQUETTE — Three people are back on land after the sailboat they were in capsized in Marquette’s Lower Harbor.

Just before 6 p.m., the group was on a 25–foot sailing vessel on Lake Superior, when a gust of wind knocked the sailboat on its side. The three people aboard the boat were all sent into the water.

Two of the three individuals were wearing life jackets. The U.S. Coast Guard was able to rescue all three people a short time later.

No injuries have been reported. The Marquette City Fire Department assisted the coast guard at the scene.
