US-41 SUV-vs.-Semi Accident

Two people were hurt in an SUV-versus-semi-truck accident on US-41 in Humboldt.

It happened shortly before 11 Saturday morning, about a quarter-mile west of County Road FN.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says 58-year-old Alex Manov of Laurium was heading east on the highway when he lost control of his Jeep Cherokee on a curve.

He crossed the center line into the path of a westbound semi driven by 66-year-old Firn Moreau of Edmundston, New Brunswick, Canada.

The SUV slid sideways into the front of the semi.

Manov and a passenger of his, 60-year-old Larisa Petrova-Pollard of Laurium, were both taken to Marquette General with unknown injuries.

There’s no word on how they’re doing.

Petrova-Pollard had to be extricated from the Jeep.

Moreau was not hurt.

Police say US-41 was covered with snow and slush at the time.

Manov was cited for careless driving.

The Sheriff’s Department says that alcohol was not a factor and that everyone was wearing seat belts.

Bell EMS, Marquette County Rescue Unit 131, Champion Township Fire and First Responders, Humboldt Township First Responders and Michigamme-Spurr First Responders assisted at the scene.
