US-41 Rollover

Be careful — it’s slippery.

Those were words to live by and drive by today across the U.P.

There aren’t any official winter warnings or watches in effect at the moment.

It’s just a mid–January day with the usual snow, blowing snow and snow covered roadways.

A number of fender-benders and a handful of more serious accidents have been reported throughout the day.

One of the more serious ones happened shortly after 1pm on US-41 near the Carp River in Negaunee Township.

38-year-old Jennifer Terres of Negaunee was driving an SUV westbound when she lost control and rolled over, with the SUV coming to rest on its roof.

Terres’ 3-year-old son was a passenger.

No one was hurt; police say seatbelts and child restrains were being used.

The message from law enforcement, and several wrecker companies, is to slow down, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle ahead of you, and to concentrate on driving, not talking on the phone or any other distractions.
