UPSET drug bust defendant sentenced

Another of the six defendants arrested in an Iron River Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team drug bust has been sentenced in Iron County Circuit Court.

Amy Marcell, 38, of Iron River was given two years probation for four counts of controlled substance delivery and manufacture, which she pled guilty to in August.

Marcell will spend at least two months in Iron County Jail, at which time she will given the choice to move her case to drug court.  If she goes that route, she will enter the court’s drug program and will be released from prison.

If Marcell decides to stay out of drug court, she will serve three additional months in jail.

Michael Walsh, 28, of Iron River had been at large since late July after failing to appear for his pretrial hearing.

Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Department picked up Walsh at Iron River residence on September 20.

The Iron County Prosecutor’s Office handed down a plea offer, which Walsh will be able to consider until his next conference on October 21.  He has a jury trial scheduled for January 22, 2014.Both Walsh and Marcell – and four others – were arrested May 22 after the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team recovered more than four grams of heroin, illegal mushrooms, marijuana, illegal prescription drugs, and $1,600 cash at Joseph Baclich’s home in Iron River.
