PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team investigated a suspected meth lab Wednesday.

The lab was discovered by troopers from the Michigan State Police, Sault Ste. Marie Post conducting a traffic stop in Luce County. Troopers located supected meth components in the driver’s vehicle.

UPSET Detectives arrived on the scene and identified the driver as a suspected meth cook who has been under investigation for some time. Detectives searched the driver’s house in Portage Township in Mackinac County, where they found additional meth components and hazardous waste from the manufacturing of meth.

The components and waste were removed and transported to a secure storage location. The investigation remains ongoing and no names are being released at this time.
