UPPCO Substation Equipment Failure

About 650 customers served by the Shingleton substation off Highway 28 about 10 miles southeast off Munising are without power due to equipment failure.

The outage began around 3:00 this afternoon. Repair of the equipment could take until tomorrow, but UPPCO officials are evaluating options that would allow those customers to be served by a different substation while repairs are made.

If “switching” the customers to another substation is feasible, service could be restored within another two or three hours. If a switch can’t be made, it’s likely the customers will remain without power until sometime tomorrow.
