UPPCO Disconnection Notices

Nearly 2,500 Upper Peninsula Power Company customers will be reading their next bill by candlelight unless they take some action soon.

Disconnection notices were sent out at the end of march.

Those notices went to households and businesses four months or more behind on their utility bills.

UPPCO customer service manager Stephen Lillie says the company would prefer not to disconnect anyone — they don’t interrupt service during the winter.

If you are behind on your utility bill, he says ignoring the situation is a bad idea because it won’t go away…but your service might.

Lillie says UPPCO is usually very amenable to working with customers to establish payment arrangements.
