UPEC sponsors Celebrate the UP March 8-9

​The Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition will hold its fifth annual Celebrate the UP on March 8-9 at the Landmark Inn, Peter White Public Library and the Federated Women’s Clubhouse (the corners of Front Street and Ridge Street in Marquette). The event is a great antidote to cabin fever as it brings together people who enjoy the region’s outdoor environment. Everyone is welcome to attend.

​Jonathan Lutz, Executive Director of Michigan Audubon, will kick off the event Friday at 7 p.m. by exploring Audubon’s “Strategic Initiatives for Bird Conservation in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.” On Saturday, twelve speakers will present between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. covering such topics as art, UP literature, archeology, birds, alpaca farming, and Native American treaties and indigenous foods.

​On Saturday from 3 to 4:45 p.m., a group of panelists will discuss “Harvesting Biomass and Forest Health” in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library. The panel will feature foresters, ecologists, and landowners. A public reception will following the panel will convene at the Federated Women’s Clubhouse.
