UPDATE — Tuesday, August 16, 2016 7:00 a.m. EDT

Local law enforcement ended a standoff peacefully in Kingsford early yesterday evening.

Officers from Kingsford Public Safety say they responded to a report of a suicidal man that may be in possession of a firearm.

Iron Mountain Police were in telephone contact with the man, who had locked himself inside his home on the 100 block of Newton Street in Kingsford. Attempts were made to coax the subject from his home and surrender but were ultimately unsuccessful.

The Critical Incident Response Team was activated to negotiate with the man. Eventually, the subject did surrender and was taken into protective custody without incident.

The man was transported to Dickinson County Hospital for evaluation.

KINGSFORD — An apparent police stand off took place Monday at the 100 block of Newton St. in Kingsford.

Video posted after 9:30 p.m. CST shows a high police presence at the corner of Breitung Avenue from earlier Monday evening. Videographer Jason Asselin says he arrived to the then-active situation at 6 p.m. and it was over within an hour and half of his arrival.

Police responded to the area after reports of a man with a gun. For several hours authorities evacuated a small area surrounding a two story brick building in a residential neighborhood.

A tactical police team in SWAT-like gear prepped in the nearby post office parking lot, and shortly thereafter walked over to the scene. They arrived at the building, and made entry.

The suspect then gave himself up to police.

Kingsford Public Safety, Iron Mountain Police, Norway Police, Dickinson County Sheriff Dept, Michigan State Police, and Menonminee Police all responded to the situation.

There are no reports of injuries and what caused the initial report is not known at this time.

This is a developing story. Stay with ABC 10. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
