Update on Ishpeming Accident

THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THE 3 CAR ACCIDENT IN ISHPEMING YESTERDAY HAVE BEEN RELEASED.

IT HAPPENED AROUND ONE–THIRTY AT THE INTERSECTION OF US–41 WITH SECOND STREET.

ACCORDING TO POLICE A BLACK 2002 CHEVY IMPALA DRIVEN BY A 22 YEAR OLD KEVIN MICHAEL HOIST OF REPUBLIC WAS DRIVING WEST BOUND WHEN HE WAS STRUCK BY A 2009 CHEVY EQUINOX.

THE EQUINOX DRIVEN BY A 81 YEAR OLD ERIC SAXWOLD HAMMAR, OF BRIGHTON FAILED TO YIELD TO HOIST.

THE EQUINOX WAS STRUCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.

THE FORCE OF THE CRASH CAUSED HAMMAR TO LOOSE CONTROL AND SLAM INTO THE SIDE OF A 2004 WHITE SUBARU FORSTER DRIVEN BY THERESA AN SYRJALA A 53 YEAR OLD WOMAN FROM CHAMPION.

TWO OF THE PASSENGERS WERE SENT TO BELL MEMORIAL HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT AND RELEASED.

THE ISHPEMING POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS ASSISTED BY THE ISHPEMING FIRE DEPARTMENT, BELL HOSPITAL E–M–S, MARQUETTE COUNT SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AS WELL AS THE ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP POLICE.
