UPDATE: Multiple people injured in car accident

UPDATE — 8:25 P.M. MARCH 14, 2016, EST

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the Ford Escape, Thomas Beauchamp, 57, of Marquette was attempting to turn onto N. Second Street from US-41 when he was struck by a westbound DNR Vehicle driven by Jason Peterson, 43, also of Marquette. Peterson had run a red light.

Beauchamp was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Marquette County Sheriff’s Rescue Unit 131. He was transported to UP Health System-Marquette and admitted for his injuries, where he’s listed as being in serious condition.

Peterson is a civilian DNR employee and was transported to Bell Hospital for minor injuries. He was treated and released. An underlying issue with Peterson may have contributed to the accident. Peterson did have a passenger, Molly Lewis, who was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Ishpeming Police were assisted by the Ishpeming Fire Deparment, Marquette County Rescue 131, The Negaunee Police, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police.

ISHPEMING — Multiple people appeared to be injured in a two vehicle accident early this morning.

Ishpeming City Police were called to the scene of a car accident at US-41 and 2nd Street in Ishpeming this morning before 8:00 a.m. involving at least two vehicles, a Black Ford Escape and a DNR marked Ford F-350. Several police, fire and ambulance agencies assisted one another to clear the street, guide traffic and assist those involved.

According to an ABC 10 reporter on scene, it appeared that multiple persons were transported from the scene via ambulance, and one person extricated from a vehicle.
