UPAWS Cause for Paws

When it comes to a good cause, this one has paws and is definitely worth barking about.

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter in Marquette County is looking for funding help for the upcoming year.

The limited capacity and budget of the shelter is always put to the test during the warmer months, and summer is just around the corner.

UPAWS shelter manager Dayna Kennedy says the shelter can comfortably house 50 cats and 10 dogs or so.

More than a hundred other domestic animals, including ducks, birds and bunnies, were cared for at the shelter in 2011.

but, there is always a funding need.

There are many ways to help, one of which is the annual Cause for Paws dinner and dance at Upfront and Company on Saturday, April 7th.

Proceeds for the event will go to UPAWS, which housed nearly 2,000 pets last year.

Tickets are $45 and are on sale at UPAWS in Negaunee Township, as well as at Mares-Z-Doats and the Pet Stop in Marquette.
