ESCANABA — Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, which means many of us are stuffing our faces today before Lent starts.
One of the U.P.’s favorite Fat Tuesday traditions is the Paczki. The Polish fried doughnut is full of fat, sugar and butter and the Donut Connection in Escanaba has been hard at work making sure they have enough to meet the demands.
“Half of the people working today worked here like 20 years ago and they come back every year and help. I have awesome employees,” said Terri Skradski, the Owner of Donut Connection, “We make all of our glazes from scratch, all of our icings, our vanilla and chocolate angels. So everything is from scratch, and I think that makes a big, big difference.”
Each Paczki has about 700 calories, but it may be worth it. Tomorrow begins forty days of fasting for those of us observing Lent, so get your fill in while you can.
