MARQUETTE — Some local mountain bike trails are receiving attention after the staff of a California–based magazine experienced them firsthand.

Staff from Bike Magazine have traveled near and far to experience mountain biking trails across the world. After hearing some hype about the impressive trails on the western side of the U.P, the members trekked over 2,000 miles to see the trails for themselves.

Their ten day adventure started in Ishpeming and ended in Copper Harbor.

“A lot of the trails are a blend of old school and new school up there. They’ve got flow, a lot of high speed, but they also have technical sections within them so its a good blend of modern flow trails and old school, deep tact,” said Bike Magazine Editor in Chief Brice Minnigh. “That really appeals to me, having a culmination of all those features in one. It just felt like it was so concentrated in Copper Harbor. But the south trails in Marquette have a lot of diversity like that as well.”

A representative from Travel Marquette — the agency which coordinated the trip — said the magazine’s crew learned some interesting things about the UP’s geography.

Another trip may be in the works for the magazine’s staff, but as of now, nothing is confirmed.
