ESCANABA — A few weeks ago, we told you about an opportunity for U.P. artists to display their work at an international art competition in Grand Rapids called ArtPrize.
U.P. artists showed a lot of interest in forming a delegation, and a venue has been secured at the DeVos Place in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids. The display will be called U.P. Pavilion 2016 and will include over 500 feet of space for all mediums of art.
“This kind of delegation is so helpful for the arts community and especially in the U.P.,” says Pasqua Warstler, Executive and Gallery Director at the Bonifas Arts Center, “Along with the biking trails and all the wineries and all the fishing spots, we have a trail of arts and culture and that’s what this opportunity is going to do. We have world class art work being produced in the U.P. right now and if you just head north, you’re going to find more.”
The competition runs from September 21st through October 9th. Anyone over the age of 18 can participate, and over $500,000 is up for grabs. Winners are decided by both the public and a jury of art experts, so artists of all skill levels have a chance.
