United Way tax refund donations

If you haven’t filed your 2012 state tax return yet, you still have an easy way available to you to donate to charity.

There’s a tax refund check-off option on Michigan Form 4642 to allow for easy donations to the United Way.

Unemployment is still high in Michigan, and demand for services from the nonprofit groups the united way works with are on the rise, so every dollar helps.

Each donor’s money is automatically sent to the United Way chapter closest to them.

Sue Minckler of the United Way of Marquette County says the money paid last year for food and clothing for people who couldn’t otherwise afford it.

It also helped buy tents for 15 homeless adults and three homeless children to use during the summer.

For more information about the check–off option, Minckler says you can call the United Way of Marquette County at (906) 226-8171.
