A project to widen US-41 in Houghton County is in the works.

The Michigan Department of Transportation said a stretch of road…one point four miles long…from Airpark Boulevard to Golf Course Road near the Houghton County Memorial Airport will be widened to help bicycle and pedestrian traffic.

Once the project is finished…the shoulders on US-41 will be 8-feet-wide from the Portage Lake Lift Bridge all the way to Mandan Road in Keweenaw County at the tip of the peninsula.

The project includes the resurfacing of parts of US-41.

M-DOT says the project will cost just under $160,000, with most of the money coming from a federal Transportation Enhancement grant.
