LANSING, MI — A Houghton County woman was in “complete shock” after winning $100,000 playing the Michigan Lottery’s $100 Grand Cashword instant game.

The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her winning ticket at Pat’s Foods, located at 56845 Station Drive in Calumet.

“I scratched the ticket off when I got home from the store and I was shocked to see it was such a big winner,” said the player. “My fiancé and I looked the ticket over several times just to make sure it was really a big winner.”

Winning the $100,000 prize made the long Labor Day weekend even longer for the player.

“I scratched the ticket off on Saturday, and had to wait until Tuesday to call the Lottery,” said the player. “The wait seemed like it was forever, but it was worth it.”

The lucky player visited Lottery headquarters Wednesday to claim the big prize. With her winnings, she plans to buy a home and a newer vehicle.

“Winning $100,000 is just a shock and a blessing. I still can’t believe I won,” the player said.

Players have won nearly $5.6 million playing $100 Grand Cashword, which debuted in March. Each $3 ticket gives players a chance to win prizes ranging from $3 up to $100,000. More than $21.6 million in prizes remain, including: six $100,000 top prizes, and 188 $1,000 prizes.

Lottery instant games may be purchased at 11,000 retailers across the state.

In 2015, Lottery players won more than $722.1 million playing instant games.
