U.P. Vets at WW2 Memorial

79 Upper Michigan World War Two veterans, volunteers and organizers of the U.P. Honor Flight are on the ground in Washington, D.C. as they experience an emotional day of sight-seeing, paying tribute, and being honored for their service.

Mission II of the U.P. Honor Flight left the Delta County Airport at 6:30 this morning, arriving in D.C. at 8 a.m.

The trip is being described as sentimental, emotional, and chilling. Many of these elderly veterans have never been to the nation’s capitol. They were met this morning by 1st District Congressman Dan Benishek and U.P. natives living in the Washington area.

ABC 10 reporter Dan Gualdoni is with the group. He met an Upper Peninsula veteran who carried a photograph of a deceased soldier on the trip. The man said he brought the photo of his friend’s grave in Luxembourg so the fallen soldier could “come too” on today’s visit.
