U.P. Veterans spend day in Washington D.C.

May 1 is the first day of National Military Appreciation Month, and it is the one–day trip of a lifetime for about 80 Upper Michigan World War Two veterans.

The third installment of the U.P. Honor Flight left Escanaba Wednesday morning for the round-trip, day-long visit to Washington, D.C.  The trip is provided at no cost to the veterans.

The theme of the day: patriotism.

All veterans were matched with a personal guardian to help them visited memorial and landmarks in the nation’s capitol.  The group is expected to return to the Delta County Airport later Wednesday night to a Welcome Home Reception that starts at 7 p.m.
