ESCANABA — The U.P. State Fair officially kicked off today in Escanaba.

The fair offers foods for every craving and rides for people of all ages to enjoy. There is also a variety of activities to participate in while at the fair, such as unique exhibits and an eclectic group of performers.

For annual fair goers, the theme of this year’s fair will have you leaving with a great feeling of patriotism.

“Our theme this year is red, white, and blue, this fair’s for you. We will certainly have a patriotic focus this year, we will have what happens every year but is very, very important fair, is we will be honoring the U.P. veteran of the year,” said Management Agency, Executive Director Vickie Micheau.

While the fair is an annual tradition for many U.P. residents, there will be one notable change.

“We’re staying open later on Sunday night, when the fair first opened there were fireworks at night and for many years there were extended hours on Sunday. So this year we brought that back, we’re staying open until dusk,” Micheau continued.

The fair continues throughout the rest of the week and anyone is invited to stop by.
