U.P. Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2014

Ten people have been selected to join the Upper Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2014. The induction ceremony will take place on Apr. 26, 2014 at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris.

UPSHOF Class of 2014

Whitney Bell played football at Sault Ste. Marie High School. Bell went on to play football at Ferris State University.

Mike ‘Carr’ Caruso of Iron Mountain broadcasted U.P. high school football games for 40 years (1972-2012). Caruso also umpired baseball games for over 20 years.

Terry Duval was a standout athlete at Kingsford High School. He then went on to coach three different sports at Escanaba High School.

Jim Corgiat of Bessemer earned 12 different varsity letters during his time as an athlete for the Speedboys in the 1950’s.

Jill (Gobert) VanDamme was a multi-sport athlete at Escanaba High School. She went on to play basketball at Northern Michigan University.

John LeBrasseur of Nahma played golf at Lake Superior State University. He was the team captain and won an MVP award while playing for the Lakers.

Hancock’s Bill Lucier played college hockey in Ann Arbor for the University of Michigan. Lucier won three national championships as a goaltender for the Wolverines. He then went on to be an assistant hockey coach at Michigan Tech.

Holly Jean (Anderson) McCullah, a native of Laurium, was a dominant softball pitcher and bowler.

Menominee’s Mike Photenhauer ran track and cross country for the Maroons. He then went on to run cross country at Central Michigan University.

Sharon Schultz of Escanaba was a basketball standout for the Eskymos. Schultz continued her basketball career at Northern Michigan University.
