U.P. man arrested for assaulting a police officer

ONTONAGON COUNTY — A 33-year-old Bergland man was arrested Friday on a weapons possession charge and for assaulting a police officer.

Just before 4 p.m. Friday, an Ontonagon County deputy arrested the man. According to Ontonagon County Sheriff Dale Rantala, the suspect is in jail on a $70,000 cash bond. The man’s name is not being released until he’s arraigned.

The Michigan State Police Wakefield Post assisted the sheriff’s office with the arrest. No further information has been released at this time.
