U.P. lawmakers look ahead

The Michigan House of Representatives began a new two–year session on Wednesday.

Before returning to Lansing, one of the U.P.’s state lawmakers wanted to let residents know what issues the House will likely address.

State Representative Ed McBroom of Vulcan met with residents in Escanaba.  Federal budget uncertainty also affects states.  And, the House will have to spend much of its time dealing with that.

McBroom says transportation issues will also get attention.     He also wants to reform the Michigan Merit Curriculum, saying it has hurt vocational education.  And as a dairy farmer, he knows of some agricultural issues he’d like to address.

At that same forum, Congressman Dan Benishek spoke with Delta County residents about national issues confronting Congress.
