NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — With this warm weather, you might want to put winter behind you, but there’s still time for some fun winter games, especially for a good cause.

This Saturday marks the second annual UPAWS winter games. The event combines classic cross country skiing and a snowshoeing 5k and 2k…but with a twist. This year, competitors can bring along their dogs.

“Its awesome that we get to have that interaction there because that’s by far the best part about working at a shelter and being involved is that, you know, you get to see these bonds between human and animal. It’s cool,” said Steffani Baker, Donor Relations Coordinator for UPAWS.

It costs $30 for adults to register and $20 for kids. In addition, you can form a pledge raising team to raise even more money. In total, the shelter hopes to raise four thousand dollars.

“It’s going to go to general operating expenses which is really important. You know that’s going to keep the heat on, its going to keep the lights on, its going to keep the food for the animals and everyday medical expenses, really. It stretches, but we have a lot of animals here,” added Baker.

If you’d like to race, you can find a link to register on our website. The event starts Saturday morning at 9:00 on the Noquemanon Trail Network.
