U.P. Catholic Credit Union Expands

A local credit union has long wanted to expand to a certain area of the U.P., and it accomplished that earlier today.

The U.P. Catholic Credit Union opened a new branch in Negaunee this morning.

The interior may look sparse as everyone settles in, but it’s fully functional and ready to take any business that comes its way.

Branch manager Julie Olson says UPCCU members have asked the credit union to expand to the west end of Marquette County for years now, and she’s excited that it’s finally happened.

Wells Fargo closed five of its U.P. branches last April.

The Negaunee branch was one of them, and the UPCCU has moved into its former home on US–41.

Olson says that almost immediately after the Negaunee Wells Fargo bank closed, the credit union started talking with Wells Fargo about buying the property.

She says the sale closed this past fall.

The Negaunee branch is also welcoming people with a special promotion.

There’s a quarter-percentage-point discount on interest rates for all loans taken out at the new branch through the end of this month.
