U.P. 200 Helping Copper Dog 150

As the western U.P. plans for the return of sled dog racing, organizers of the U.P. 200 are helping advise the people running the new event.

The U.P. 200 wrapped up in Marquette last Sunday, but the festivities are just beginning for the Keweenaw.

Since the Copper Dog 150 is a first-time event, U.P. 200 organizers have been giving input based on their years of experience.

They’re also volunteering for the race.

U.P. Sled Dog Association President Pat Torreano thought it would be a natural for her to get involved, since Calumet’s her hometown.

Based on the U.P. 200’s earliest years, Torreano recommends that the Copper Dog organizers expect the unexpected and make sure they publicly appreciate the community’s support of the race.

The Copper Dog 150 starts on Friday, March 12th and ends Sunday the 14th, both in Calumet.
