Two treated for injuries after US-41 car accident

MATHIAS TOWNSHIP — Two men were taken to the hospital after a traffic crash around noon Saturday.

Troopers from the Negaunee Post of the Michigan State Police say it happened on US-41 near M-67 in Mathias Township.

Gary Lacombe, 68, of Zionsville, IN, was traveling southbound on the highway when he slowed/stopped to make a left into a driveway. He was then rear-ended by a vehicle driven by Eugene Holmquist, 86, of Rapid River.

Police say both drivers received injuries and were taken to Marquette General Hospital for treatment. Both men were wearing seat belts and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted on scene by Trenary First Reponders, Mathias Fire Dept., Med One, MGH Ambulance, Rock River Fire Dept., Alger County Sheriff’s Office, and the DNR.
