Two suspects in custody, one dead following home invasion

MELLEN TOWNSHIP — One man is dead after a home invasion in Menominee County.

Deputies from the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office say they are investigating a home invasion and a second related breaking and entering in Mellen Township on Range Line Road near Number 14 Road. Shortly before 5:00 a.m. Central Time Monday morning, a 62-year-old man called 911 to report that he believed unknown persons were breaking into his home. A deputy arrived on the scene to find a 19-year-old man deceased in the home with multiple gunshot wounds.

Deputies say law enforcement set up a perimeter and started searching for additional suspects, deploying two K-9 teams in the process. Menominee Police, Michigan State Police, and Sheriff’s deputies searched the area. Two male suspects, ages 19 and 20, were spotted in the woods and taken into custody. The suspects are being held for questioning and may be charged with home invasion, breaking and entering, and larceny.

Law enforcement does not believe that any other suspects are at large. The names of those involved in the incident are being withheld pending death notification, autopsy, arraignment of the suspects, and further investigation.
