Two suspected of smuggling contraband into prison arraigned

SAULT STE. MARIE — Two men were arraigned in Chippewa County District Court after being pulled over on the Mackinac Bridge.

Darryl Watkins, 20, and Dario Boyd, 22, both from Detroit appeared in court today. The face charges of Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Attempted Furnishing Contraband into a Prison.

The pair were arrested after a suspicious vehicle was spotted near the Kinross Correctional Facility. Later on, several containers suspected to hold marijuana and cell–phones were found next to the facility fence. State Troopers from St. Ignace stopped Boyd and Watkins just after the paid the toll on the Mackinaw Bridge.

Watkins is being held on a two–thousand dollar bond, and Boyd, who is a habitual offender is being held on a $10,000 bond.
