Two sent to hospital after motorcycle accident

ALGER COUNTY — Two people were sent to the hospital after a motorcycle accident Saturday evening in Alger County.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says the incident was reported around 7:45 P.m. via a broken–up cell phone call. Responders were sent out to locate the accident on H–58 between Grand Marais and Melstrand.

They found the accident almost a mile north of the intersection of H–58 and Hurricane Truck Trail. Responders found that a Honda motorcycle with two occupants failed to negotiate a curve while heading east on H–58. The driver and passenger were ejected after the motorcycle left the roadway.

The two were taken to UP Health System Marquette. The driver, a Grand Marais man, was taken via EMS. The female passenger from Grand Marais was flown by Valley Med Flight.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident.

Michigan State Police, the Burt Township Fire Department, and Rangers from the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore also assisted at the scene.
