WELLS TOWNSHIP — Two responders received minor injuries after a garage caught fire in Wells Township late Tuesday night.
Escanaba Public Safety officials say they were dispatched to the fire on the 6,000 block of North 8th Street around 11:30 p.m. Upon arrival, fire fighters observed smoke — and eventually flames — coming from the detached garage.
An officer evacuated residents who were still in the home, which was only a few feet from the burning structure. None of the residents were injured, although two Public Safety officers sustained minor injuries during fire ground operations.
The blaze was extinguished, but not before the garage sustained heavy damage. The house received minor damage due to heat from the fire. Investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted at the scene by the Delta County Sheriff’s Department, Ford River Fire Department, Rampart EMS, DTE Energy, and UPPCO.
