Two NMU football players selected to Preseason All-American Team

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Two Northern Michigan University football players have each been selected to the 2012 USA Football News Division II Preseason All-American Team. Senior Rockne Belmonte is a second team selection and senior Prince Young is a third team selection. Belmonte is also a preseason All-American as an honorable mention choice by the D2 vs. NAIA Bowl.

Belmonte, a 6-foot-1, 214-pound kicker, holds NMU’s record for field goals in a season. He was 15-for-19 on field goals with a long of 45 in 2011. Belmonte was also 29-for-31 on PATs. He has 31 career field goals and is 10 shy Northern’s career mark.

Young, a 5-foot-9, 196-pound running back, led the Wildcats with 960 rushing yards last season on 202 carries. He had four 100 yard rushing games, including a career-high 149 at Ferris State (Oct. 15) on 25 carries. Young also scored five touchdowns and had 14 receptions for 68 yards.

The ‘Cats play their season-opener at Findlay on Aug. 30.
