Two dead after single-vehicle rollover

STAMBAUGH TOWNSHIP — Two people are dead after a rollover accident that happened in Stambaugh Township Tuesday evening.

Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office say the crash occurred on M-189 south of the intersection with Osterlund Road shortly after 8:00 p.m. A car with two occupants was headed north when it left the roadway. The driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, while the passenger was trapped inside the vehicle. Police say both died as a result of their injuries.

Iron County Central Dispatch had received complaints earlier regarding the vehicle driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed. Law enforcement were actively searching for the suspect vehicle when the accident happened.

Names of the deceased are not being released until relatives can be notified. The accident remains under investigation.

Iron County Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMT’s, and Iron County Central Dispatch.
