Two dead after Ryder truck allegedly collides with motorcycle in Ishpeming

UPDATE: June 5, 5:46 p.m.

The Ishpeming Police Department says the Ryder truck was driven by a 19-year-old Ishpeming man, but are not releasing his name at this time.

Names have not yet been released regarding the man and woman who died, who police believe are Upper Peninsula residents, until their family is notified.

The accident remains under investigation.

A man and woman are dead after their motorcycle was struck by a Ryder truck earlier this afternoon in Ishpeming.

Ishpeming Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and U.S. 41 around 1:20 p.m. Police say when they arrived on scene both driver and his female passenger were deceased. The preliminary report indicates that a Ryder truck was heading westbound on U.S. 41 when it collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle heading eastbound after attempting to make a left turn on to South Lakeshore Drive. Police say the truck appeared to pull into their path while the light was still green.

The truck driver was taken to Bell Hospital for minor injuries. Police say he will most likely be okay. The names of the two victims who passed away as a result of the accident are not being released at this time. There is no word as to whether or not the riders were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Ishpeming Police were assisted on scene by troopers from the Michigan State Police Department, the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Bell Hospital EMS, and Marquette General EMS.
