Two Boaters Rescued in Alger County

A joint effort between recreational boaters and Alger County law enforcement saved two boaters. The rescue happened Monday night when the Alger County Sheriff’s Department responded an overturned sailboat a half mile off the shore of Sand Point Beach in Lake Superior. Police say the Pictured Rocks Cruise Boat “Grand Island” was traveling through the east channel of Munising Bay and observed a boat that had overturned. The boat was occupied by Fred Hunt IV of Munising and Amy Rocke of Shingleton. The cruise boat remained on scene until the pair was rescued by recreational boaters. Their overturned boat was towed back to shore.
