TruNorth member wins money for saving

ISHPEMING — A lucky credit union member in Ishpeming was awarded a prize for saving money Wednesday morning.

A check for the amount of $10,000 was presented to TruNorth Federal Credit Union member Laurie L. The check was awarded as part of the Save to Win program, which allows credit union members across Michigan to set up a CD with some unique benefits.

“Members deposit $25 into their account as their initial deposit, and then each increment of $25 that they save over the month earns them chances to win monthly prizes as well as quarterly prizes throughout the year,” said Jessica Thelen, Save to Win Product Coordinator for CU Solution Group. “So really, this program encourages people to save with the incentive of having chances to win prizes.”

This is the second time a TruNorth member was named as one of the grand prize winners. This year’s winner says she will likely save the prize money and reinvest it.

“She was thrilled to have won,” said TruNorth Member Advocate Shae Kangas. “She has been a member here since 1983, and we are happy to be rewarding that kind of loyalty among our membership.”

A member of Peninsula Federal Credit Union in Escanaba was also among this year’s six grand prize winners. For more information, you can visit
