Trial set for U.P. man suspected of murder

BATON ROUGE, LA. — An Upper Peninsula man charged with murder in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is going to trial.

Mason Chiapuzio, 20, of Ironwood Township is scheduled to go to trial in March 2015 for second-degree murder.  The trial is expected to last a full week.  One of his co-defendants will be tried separately and will go to trial starting April 20.

He appeared in the 19th Judicial District Court of the East Baton Rouge Parish Monday for a motions hearing.

Chiapuzio and three other suspects are accused of being involved in the shooting death of a Baton Rouge man in April 2012.  He fled to the U.P. in the spring of 2013 and was arrested in Ontonagon County in May of last year.
