Trial Date for Hit-and-Run Suspect
A Gwinn man is going to trial later this month for his role in a fatal hit-and-run accident.
31–year–old Luke Huotari had a pre-trial conference in Marquette County Circuit Court this morning.
He’s facing two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident causing serious impairment of a bodily function or death.
Huotari is scheduled for trial on January 22nd.
Karin and Bryan LaChapell, both of Marquette, were walking to Lake Superior to watch the city’s July 4th fireworks display.
A vehicle heading toward Harvey hit them on South Front Street and drove away.
Huotari is accused of being the driver.
Karin LaChapell died from her injuries. Bryan LaChapell was treated at Marquette General and released.
