Tree falls across U.S. 41 in Houghton County

The occupants of a Ford Focus narrowly escaped injuring Saturday as it traveled along U.S. 41 between Houghton and Chassell. High winds, gusting beyond 30 miles per hour at approximately 4:50 P.M., are being blamed for a large pine tree falling on the roadway in front of the car.

The driver of the car avoided the tree as best as possible, but the vehicle sustained noticeable damage to the front end. The car’s grill, bumper, and quarter panels were knocked off. The radiator was damaged and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

At lease one good Samaritan quickly helped at the scene with a chain saw.
