Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest
A Gwinn man is in the Marquette County Jail after a traffic stop led to his arrest for marijuana possession and other charges. The Marquette City Police say he is 26-year-old Sean David McNamara.
The traffic stop took place shortly before 10 Monday night on US-41 South near Van Epps Street. An officer tried to pull over a vehicle for minor violations. Once the vehicle pulled over, police say McNamara got out and fled the area on foot.
After a short chase, the officer used a taser while McNamara was climbing over a guard rail and arrested him without further incident.
A female passenger remained in the vehicle until officers could interview her. She was released from the scene.
Police sent a K-9 unit to the scene, and they say a search of the vehicle turned up marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.
McNamara is charged with marijuana possession with intent to deliver; driving on a suspended license, second offense; and resisting and obstructing a police officer.
The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case.
