Tourist Park Land Use Master Plan

The city of Marquette is considering making significant changes to one of its recreational spaces.
Tourist Park is home to the Hiawatha Music Festival, among other activities.
The city Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will request land use master plan proposals for Tourist Park soon.
The request for proposals should be out later this summer.
The group has identified several areas as high priorities for the new master plan.
City parks and recreation assistant director Doug Smith says one of the priorities is decommissioning the baseball field and putting the land to other uses.
Smith says the idea to decommission of the ball field comes from the city’s five-year parks and recreation master plan, which was developed with input from residents.
Besides special meetings like today’s meeting, the advisory committee meets on the first Wednesday of every month.
The meetings are in City Hall Room 103 at 8 am.
Its next meeting is scheduled for August 1st.
