MARQUETTE — One of Marquette’s hardest working public servants will be stepping down.

Fire Chief Tom Belt has announced his plans to retire at the end of the year. He’s served over 40 years as a firefighter, the past 21 as the Chief to the City of Marquette Fire Department. Belt says it has been an honor to serve Marquette residents for so long.

City Manager Bill Vajda has recommended Ian Davis to succeed Belt. Davis is currently the department’s Fire Inspector
