Tigers Verlander wins AL Cy Young

Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander was named the American Leagues Cy Young Award winner today, after having a season no pitcher has had in the MLB in 20 years.

Verlander finished the regular season with a 24-5 record, striking out 250 batters. The Tigers ace also received all 28 first place votes- a unanimous selection.

Verlander is the first Tigers pitcher to win the award since Willie Hernandez won it in 1984, the Tigers last World Series Championship.
